Spool Holder
3D print design by
Collecticraft
Step into a workshop where every spool has its place. Spool Holder is a modular wall system built around 3D printed corners and standard 25mm wooden rods, designed to grow with your filament collection and bend to the shape of your space. The base prints dual-material, with PETG for structure and TPU for anti-slip grip in a single seamless part.
Design & Concept
I designed this system to give you full control over your own build. Most spool holders force you into a fixed footprint, but this one uses printed corners as the only proprietary parts, paired with standard 25mm wooden rods you cut to whatever length your wall needs. Want it taller? Use longer vertical rods. Want it wider? Use longer horizontals. Want more capacity? Print one extra pair of shelves and four locking clips, then add another level. The base brings two materials together in a single part: a rigid PETG outer shell that holds the structure, and a soft TPU pad underneath that grips the surface and dampens vibration, printed in one pass.
Key Features:
•Modular System: Build the shelf to fit your wall. Print the corners, choose your rod length, and stack as many levels as your filament library needs.
•Dual-Material Base: A rigid PETG shell paired with a soft TPU grip pad, printed as a single seamless part.
•Standard 25mm Rods: No proprietary metal, no specialty hardware. Use any 25mm wooden dowel cut to length, easy to source from any hardware shop.
•Grows With Your Collection: Each new level only needs two extra shelves and four locking clips. Add capacity over time without rebuilding.
•Visible Storage: Every spool stays in front of you, color-sorted and ready to load. The vertical layout turns your filament library into part of the workshop's visual identity.
•Standard Single-Material Option: Print the base in PETG only and the system still works perfectly.
Hardware Required:
•Wooden Rods: Cylindrical wooden poles, 25mm diameter. You will need at least 4 rods, cut to the height and width of the shelf you want to build. Add more rods for extra levels.
Assembly
1.Print P1 (base), P2 (top), P3 (shelves), P4 (locking clips), and P5 (corner braces). Print one extra pair of P3 and four extra P4 for every additional shelf level.
2.Cut your 25mm wooden rods to the height and width that fit your wall.
3.Assemble the base and top frames using the corner braces and the rods.
4.Slide the shelves onto the vertical rods and secure each level with four locking clips.
5.Add more levels over time by stacking additional shelves and clips as your filament collection grows.
Download Spool Holder today and design a shelf that bends to your space, not the other way around. I'd love to see how tall you make yours.
