Dive into a corner of your shelf where small plants live aboard their own submarine. Self Watering Planter - Submarine is a multi-part build that hides a working water reservoir inside a friendly underwater silhouette: a row of portholes down a flank, and a periscope mast that rides on a float inside the tank, standing tall when the reservoir is full and sinking back down when the water is gone so the boat itself tells you when to top it up.

Design & Concept
I designed this piece to make a working self-watering reservoir feel like a story. The hull splits horizontally into two halves that together form the water tank, the inner planter cup sits at the top so the roots can drink whenever they need to, and the periscope rising beside the plant is mounted on a hollow float that lives inside the reservoir: when the tank is full the float lifts the periscope to its full height, as the water is consumed the float descends and the periscope drops with it, so a glance at the mast tells you whether the boat still has water on board. Portholes line the flanks in two trios, the propeller mounts at the back.
The piece reads as one object first, a planter second.


Key Features:
• Self-Watering Reservoir: The base and the upper hull together form a hidden water tank that feeds the inner planter cup, no rope, no pump, no power.
• Periscope Float Indicator: The mast is mounted on a hollow float inside the reservoir. With the tank full the periscope stands tall, as the water runs out the float descends and the periscope drops with it, telling you at a glance whether there is still water on board.
• Submarine Silhouette: A rounded two-tone hull with portholes, propeller, fins, and a turtle companion, designed to read as one cohesive object on the shelf.
• Multi-Part Build: Hull halves, inner planter cup, periscope float, portholes, propeller, rear fins, all print separately and assemble together.
• Two-Tone Finish: A matte-black upper hull set against a deep navy lower waterline carries the boat's photographic look on any matching pair of filaments.
Hardware Required:
• Magnets: Round Magnets, 5mm x 3mm. One magnet seats inside rear fin and one inside the base of the propeller.
• Superglue: A small drop is needed to secure the portholes, the propeller, to the hull.


Assembly
1. Print every part following the 3MF profile.
2. Insert one 5mm x 3mm magnet into of the rear fins and one into the base of the propeller.
3. Glue the portholes onto the flanks of the hull, three.
4. Glue the propeller and the fins to the rear of the hull, aligning with the magnet seats.
5. Submerge the float into the upper hull and attach it to the periscope, place the inner grow cup on top, fill the reservoir and place the plant in the cup.
